Getting the Most Out of Counseling

I love seeing people get better. I am so grateful to be a part of a client's story.

You're busy. You don't want to waste your time. Why do some clients improve quickly, and others linger forever (it seems) without making improvements?

1. Appointments are priority.

Keeping appointments is the key to getting well. Frequently cancelling and rescheduling appointments is going to slow done the progress of therapy. When your appointments are a priority, you'll begin to see amazing things happening (changing) in your life!

2. Take risks; try new things!

Learning new skills can be scary. Some things your therapist tells you to try might sound weird at first, but with practice, they will eventually just happen and you won't give it a second thought. Be curious. Be eager to try new things.

3. Your mental health is YOUR responsibility.

You tell your doctor what ails you when you are sick, tell your therapist whats going on in your life. Your therapist won't know how to help you if you don't tell her. Come prepared to each sessions with what you want to discuss; such as how your homework from last session went, a new challenge you've encountered, something GREAT that happened to you... Having a clear path to wellness means YOU are walking along that path towards your goals.

Until next time,

Laura
