What does LGBTQ mean?

The acronym LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Queer/Questioning individuals. The
therapists at Lotus Counseling understand the need for such an
acronym, but also that the LGBTQ acronym can be limiting.
It served a function as an umbrella for marginalized people
to whom rights were being denied, but it loses its efficacy
because of the nuanced nature of humanity. As we become
more educated and expand the facts of our nature, we keep
adding letters to that acronym. It was a great shield at one
point, but it's limiting because it does not take into account the
nuanced nature of humanity. At some point, it's going to
have to spell: "WE ARE HUMAN."

That being said.......
Many people of the LGBTQ community suffer from discrimination and stereotyping on top
of mental health issues. It is often harder for these individuals to find the help needed to address multiple aspects of mental health and daily life struggles. Here at Lotus, we can assist in getting you
where you want to be! We believe that all humans should be treated with kindness and warmth in a non judgmental environment.

We offer a Safe and welcoming environment to all members of the LGBTQ and Allied community alike. Our clinicians work to provide an inviting atmosphere and a place to discuss life's difficult problems and questions, judgement free.

Transgender Clients
For individuals who identify within the transgender community, we provide therapy to address transitional needs including those seeking hormone replacement therapy (HRT), gender reassignment surgery, connections to other LGTBQ-Allied affirming providers, and support involving transition within a small community like Grand Junction, Colorado. We also strive to work together with any additional family, friends, or support networks you would like included to fully address any and all mental health needs.
